Original announcement:

In honor of women composers from all the ages, Association of Anglican Musicians is sponsoring a competition for an anthem to be performed at the AAM convention in Scotland, July, 2007.  All women musicians, including students of sacred music, are eligible and are encouraged to participate.  Two choices of text are available.  You should feel free to adapt the text to your anthem style, but not lose the essence of or the imagery contained in the translation given.

The work will be part of the liturgy; exactly when it will occur during the convention will be decided after the winning composition is chosen.  As it will be sung by a local chorus or a choir Òof the wholeÓ, it should be of easy or moderate difficulty, with regard to preparation and performance. The piece can be acapella or accompanied; accompanied anthems should be suitably performed using a pipe organ.  Anthems should be no longer than 3-4 minutes. The selection committee will consist of  4 AAM members. The winner will receive a $500 honorarium for her work, upon selection of the composition.

Manuscripts should be send via email as .pdf attachments to the following email address:  templelm@jmu.edu, by Feb. 1, 2007, and the winner will be chosen by March 1, 2007.
