I think that most of my information on this group came from Mary Olson and her daughter Amy Jones of Iowa several years ago and may well be out of date.. One of the important things about this group is that it , via Bernard Dentinger, gave rise to the Louisville Group.

The best information on this group is Jerry (Gerald Bernard) Dentinger in Louisville.

 Notes for LUDWIG G. DENTINGER:
Per Stan Dentinger, March 1998

Some of the Dentingers chose to leave NY. They came west after the civil war. Some of the Dentinger clan settled in Milwaukee, WI. Our side came to the new state of MN. There was a need for trades people and skilled labor. Ludwig (Louis) was a tailor and set up a tailor shop in the J.I. Case Building on Front St in Mankato. They lived in the Duke's addition at that time. Later they built a house across from SS Peter and Paul's Catholic Church on the corner of 5th and Mulberry St.

In memory of LOUIS G. DENTINGER: Prayers and Reflections by Gerry, his son

Death: March 18, 1975   Funeral: March 21, 1975 1:00p.m.

PRAYER at the FAMILY SERVICE:

God our Father, we pray with sad hearts tonight. Our dear father is dead, and we are in misery and sorrow. We come to you sorely in need of comfort.
We remember that you said: "Come to me all of you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you strength." We come burdened; give us strength.
You said: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by name. You are mine." You called Dad by name. You called him home. He was your son who tried to act justly, love tenderly and walk humbly before you.
We want to believe all this; help our unbelief. We want to hope; help our hopelessness. We want to love; help us to love even better. Help us to love Dad enough to accept his death, and to commend him to your love, and to live as he would have us live. We ask this, Father, in the name of your son, Jesus. Amen.

PRAYER at the WAKE:

God, our Heavenly Father, we pray tonight for our Dad and our friend. We pray that you will truly give him that eternal rest and peace, and life after his suffering and trials. We pray that you receive him into the home you have prepared for those who love you and serve you. We commend our Dad to you.
We pray tonight for us who are here, missing him and finding his death hard to bear. Help us to be people of faith and of hope. Always there is the wish that Dad might have had a few more years. We have those years. Help us to live life well. In this way we will be true to the memory.
We pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.

FUNERAL MASS

PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL

1. that Dad may be at peace, and that in the new life of eternity he may sing his song, vibrantly and exultantly. we pray to the Lord.

2. That mother may be comforted and strengthened by the thought of his peace, and by the memories of their years together. We pray to the Lord.

3. That we, his sons and daughters, may be men and women of faith and of integrity, and thus be a joy to our parents. We pray to the Lord.

4. That the grandchildren may always remember Grandpa's love for them, and become more loving children because of it. We pray to the Lord.

5. That all of us here, in our common suffering, and in our common faith, may grow closer together as a family and as friends, and extend our love and concern to the many people who touch our lives. We pray to the Lord.

OFFERTORY PROCESSION

As we come to the Liturgy of the Eucharist, we bring to the alter not only bread and wine, but also symbols of Dad's life, carried by the oldest grandchildren.

1. Jacqueline leads the procession with the PROCESSIONAL CROSS. This was partly Dad's gift to the church. Now it is a sign for us of the victoy of his faith over his sufferings and death. It is the sign of his love for family and Church.

2. Brian brings his Grandpa's BREIFCASE representing his work and his loyalty to the Crane Company the past 28 years.

3. Michelle brings his NAVY UNIFORM to the alter. Dad was proud of having worn that uniform, and proud that his three sons also wore it.

4. Amy brings the host and chalice, and Joe brings the water and wine, the simple gifts that bring Christ amoung us.

With Christ, let us offer the Mass in thanksgiving for all that Dad was and is.

A MESSAGE given during the final prayers

There is a banner that says:
Only one thing matters
that wherever we go
and however we go
we hear the music of life.

I think this message is appropriate to day. Dad loved music, especially the strong rhythm of the marching band. He loved to sing. He had his favorite records and always enjoyed listening to them. Yet he also made music of a kind:

1. He made music of BEAUTY. He loved beautiful things that others created he encouraged Ann in her talent of art; he appreciated Mom's great skill in sewing and proudly wore the suits she made; he was proud of the achievements of all his children in their homes and in their careers.

2. He made music of HOSPITALITY. Dad and Mom maintained a beautiful home just redone last year with lots of hard work. But more, they maintained a homey place a place where everyone was welcome, where we were accepted as we were, and they expected the same from us to take them as they were. Hospitality is a singularly beautiful music that makes life good.

3. He made music of FAITHFULNESS. In a time when not everyone takes commitmnets seriously, Dad did take them seriously. He was extraordinarily faithful to his job responsibilities at Crane Company, and I'm sure his friends and customers here today can attest to that. Twentyeight years he worked there, days and many evenings of work at home. He was faithful to his Catholic faith in a strong and sure way. And because of this, I think he faced death with hope, and with a trust in God's love and mercy. He was faithful to his friends. He was faithful to us, his fanily, loving us perhaps more than we ever realized.

4. Finally, he made music of PAIN. That is a sad sweet melody that we want to avoid  but no honest life can escape it. and Dad was honest. He suffered what seems more than rightful measure and we ask that unanswerable question, WHY? a question that rests in the profound mystery of life which now Dad has entered into, and where, yes, he has the answer.

Dad heard the music life. Let us today, in this celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus, join together with Dad to make the new music of his eternal life, the celebration music of resurrection.

OFFERTORY PROCESSION

As we come to Liturgy of the Eucharist where we are one in the Body of the Lord we bring to the alter, along with the bread and wine, some gifts that speak of Kathy and her enjoyment of life:

1. Caroline brings a NURSE'S CAP, a career her mother practiced with skill and care.

2. Michelle bring a BOOK, for her mother loved to read! We offer this joy and the areas of life books opened for her.

3. Betsy brings another kind of book a COOKBOOK.  Her Aunt Kathy loved to try new recipes to the enjoyment of family and friends.

4. Christine brings A WORL OF NEEDLEPOINT, one of many of her Aunt Kathy's talented expressions and hobbies.

5.  Brian and Paul, Jacqueline and Joe bring the BREAD AND WINE for the Eucharist, the simple gifts that make Christ present amoung us.

With Jesus, in him, we celebrate the mystery of life and death, and of eternal life.

PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL

1. For Kathy that she may know now the full meaning of life, and the love God has for her, we pray to the Lord.

2. For Marty that he may find the strength in God's love and in the love he and Kathy shared, we pray to the Lord.

3. For Michelle and Caroline that their Mother's love for them will be a lasting influence in their lives, we pray to the Lord.

4. For all of us who have known Kathy and loved her: the mothers Viola and Phyllis, the brothers and sisters, all family and friends, that while we sorrow at the loss, we will also find strength in faith a faith that grows deeper, we pray to the Lord.

5. Kathy came from the farm, and so we pray for the land and in gratitude for the rain. That we may always be good tenders of the earth, we pray to the Lord.

COMMUNION REFLECTION by Sister Viola Kane

Love bears all things...
Love believes all things,
Love looks forward to the Lord of tomorrow!

Kathy's life expressed this kind of love
Always filled with fath and hope of another day,
As she accepted the downs with a spirit of up!

Always planning and ready for the moment,
When she would be well enough to bring "Jesus" to the sick,
"I know what it means to wait...
and the struggle to endure," she said.
"And how much it means to have communion."

Kathy's spirit of service
Will be an inspiration to us
And her way of praising goodness
Will live on in our faith family

We praise you Lord, for Kathy
We thank you that through suffering she learned to know you more
And became the person others loved
As she walked amoung us
hungry to be of service
thirsty to be of courage
gentle to be listening
patient to be smiling...

We pray that Kathy's life on earth
short and surprising as her death
Will forever remind us
That love bears all things
believes all things
and keeps hoping for a better tomorrow
if we but keep looking up.

Kathy will go on living inour hearts
as our friend, our sister, our daughter,
our mother, and our bride as she was the Lord's
who has called her, "Come my love, my dove, my beautiful one.
Come, the winter is over. Spring has come!"

*Sister Viola is Religious Coordinator for the parishes in Owatonna. Kathy and Marty worked with her in the Confirmation program.
