Overview

The earliest ancestors of our Dendinger / Dentinger family appear to be in Oberroeden, Alsace. There have been several immigrations of Dentingers into the United States and Canada with several groups established. Click here for an outline descend tree with all of the non-direct siblings removed. Hopefully this will help see the relationships among the various groups of the family.

In order to get some idea of the sequence of immigration click here for an overview.

1.  Another group I have been calling the New York Group and includes my ancestor, Michael T.Dendinger, who is one of the several Dentingers who changed his name to Dendinger Actually, several branches of the family have lived in New York area so this is really not a good designation. It should really be called the "New York, Wisconsin, Nebraska Group". Click the New York button on the left for more information about this branch.

2.  This Southern Indiana Group descended from Joseph Dentinger and Magdalena Collato. The connection is somewhat tenuous. For more information click the Indiana button on the left.

3.  The Ohio Group and these folks are the descendents of Ferdinand Dentinger (25 September 1820 to 14 October 1902) and his four wives. Click the Ohio button on the left for details.

4.  There is a large group of Dentingers in Canada who are the descendents of Anton Dentinger and Catherine Marzolf. The button is on the left.

5.  Another branch is the Wisconsin Group who are the descendents of Jean Charles Dentinger (b May 12, 1808) and Marie Ann Weigel.  One generation of the descendents of Michael T. Dendinger also spent one generation in Wisconsin before they moved to Hartington NE but they are in the New York group. To see the Jean Charles descendents click the Wisconsin button on the left.

6.  The descendents of Ludwig Dentinger (September 08, 1824 ) and Catherine Meyer formed the Minnesota Group and from here came Bernard L. Dentinger (June 03, 1870 ) and Meta Marie Heinze who gave rise to the Louisville Group. Click the Minnesota button on the left for more information.

7.  The New Orleans Group seems to be descended from brothers Nicholas and Theodore Dendinger. Nicholas was born about 1838 in France Theodore in 1850 in New Orleans. The New Orleans City Library has a lot of information on the family, but I cannot piece it together. Click the button on the left for more information.

8.  There are some Dentingers who have descended from a Paul James and a Paul James Jr. from around the Scio area of New York, for whom we cannot find a connection (this information is from David P. Dentinger). There is another, probably related, group from the Scio area. Listed in the Scio, Allegany County, NY, 1870 US Census was: George Dentinger born around 1833 in France. He worked in a Shook Mill. He was married to Anne born 1837 in the USA  They had two children: Freddy Dentinger born 1861 in Scio, NY and Georgia A Dentinger born 1869  One son of Freddy was STANLEY JAMES DENTINGER. He was born in Inavale or Friendship, Allegany, NY in 10 Feb 1897. (This information is from a Dentinger in Oregon who is trying to find a connection.)
