Website includes instructions for out-of-class assignments.
Textbook: Economic Botany: Plants in Our World. Third edition.
B.B. Simpson and M.C. Ogorzaly. McGraw Hill.
Attendance: Students will sign an attendance sheet for each class. Although class attendance is not required, attendance is expected of all students. I will supplement the text with material and demonstrations presented in lecture and anyone not in attendance risks missing information which one may be expected to know for examinations. Attendance sheets will be kept on file and used if needed as an indicator of class participation.
Grading: Grades will be based on three class exams, a comprehensive final exam, and two homework assignments. The course grade will be computed as follows:
Test 1 20% Test 2 20% Test 3 20% Assignments 15% Final Exam 25%
Make-up exams: Missed examinations may be taken late only with permission from the instructor. Missed exams will not be treated lightly, so do not abuse this provision. Make-up exams may consist of essay questions designed to allow you to demonstrate your proficiency of the subject matter.
All students are bound by the JMU Honor Code. All students are expected to make an effort to be in class on time and ready for class to start. All students are expected to be respectful of others in the classroom and help create a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning.
Students are responsible for registering for classes and for verifying their class schedules on e-campus. The deadline for adding a Fall Semester class without instructor and academic unit head signatures is Tue, Sept 4, 2006. After Tue, Sept 4, 2006 instructor and department head signatures are required to add a class for Fall Semester 2007. No student will be allowed to register for a Fall Semester class after Thurs, Sept 13, 2007 - no appeals.
Students with disabilities who require reasonable accommodations to fully participate in course activities and/or meet course requirements must register with the Office of Disability Services (ODS) and contact me to discuss access issues. ODS will provide you with an Access Plan Letter that will verify your need for services and make recommendations for accommodations to be used in my classroom. ODS is located in the Wilson Learning Center, Room 107; Phone: 568-6705.
The following schedule is to be used as a guideline for progress through the semester and is subject to modification as circumstances may warrant.
