THERE'S A FLY IN MY WEB!

Let's look closer...

The fly's eye is a compound eye. In this micrograph you can see the individual facets of the eye.

The foot of the fly is designed for traveling on any type of surface. Notice the two large hooks on the end. These hooks allow the fly to grab onto rough surfaces. Also notice the many small hairs that flatten out at their tips. These tips allow the fly foot to adhere to smooth surfaces like glass and keep from falling.

This is the part of the mouth used to sponge up liquids and other gooey sweet stuff that the fly likes to eat.

The wing of the fly is covered by small hairs. There are longer hairs that form a fringe along the edge of the wing.
