Kathryn Clark, Divya Trehan, and Maureen Forrestel - working hard ? :)

Current and Previous Lab Members and What they are up to!

Elizabeth Ward (2004) - Continuing on with winning track meets! :) She has helped us get our new Western Blotting Technique for looking at changes in nitric oxide synthase expression.

Sam Park (2003)- Sam has been trying to improve our RNA isolation techniques in the lab by testing out several new kits.

Amy Fuller (standing -2002) will continue to work in the lab this summer while searching for the perfect job to do for a year before starting graduate school. Amy is currently working on improving an RT-PCR based mechanism for analyzing how the NOS transcripts are regulated.

Maureen Forrestel (sitting - 2002) will be starting Pharmacy school at the University of Maryland(Baltimore) in the Fall. She helped out with the project to determine how Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor effects NOS I Expression.

Kathryn Clark (2002) will be taking a year off to work before attending Medical School in the Fall of 2003. Kathryn helped continue our efforts to determine how the activation of Protein Kinase A changes expression of NOS I.

Divya Trehan (2002) will be attending Pharmacy school at VCU starting in the FAll of 2002. Divya has been working to determine how IL-6 treatment affects the expression of the three NOS isoforms.

Sam Campbell (2001) will be starting medical school in Fall 2002 at VCU Medical Scool in Richmond,VA. Sam worked to understand how treating PC12 cells with Forskolin effected NOS I expression. Forskolin activates the PKA pathway.

Kathy Munoz (2001) is a laboratory technichian in Washington D.C. She is currently helping to improve our ability to perform Microarray Techniques. Kathy helped obtain a material transfer agreement so that we could continue to study how Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor changes NOS I expression.

Linda Yu (2001) started Pharmacy School at VCU in the Fall of 2001 -- 3 more years and she will have her Pharm. D. Linda studied how the chemical called Phorbal Myristic Acid which activates protein kinase C changes the expression of NOS I.

Scott Kelly (2001) is continuing on with his missionary work for the next year. He is planning to eventually attend graduate school. Scott developed protocols using NIH image program to be used to analyze neurite outgrowth of PC12 cells.

Antia Wayland is a 7th grade teacher at Montevideo Middle School in Harrisonburg, VA. She spent last summer in the lab learning the latest in lab techniques to take back to her classroom. Our lab has also enjoyed participating in her classroom to show the students how to do DNA electrophoresis.
