Wednesday, April 9th: The last pre-vet club meeting this semester, at 8PM in Burruss 238. Danielle will be presenting about her summer internship experience at Leesburg's Equine Medical Center, we will give a short presentation outlining the process of application to vet school, and we will be holding elections! Anyone interested in running for an office should make sure they are there. If you cannot be at the meeting for some reason but want to run for office, please let us know in advance and we can still have you run for office.
Saturday, March 29th: The PreVet Club is taking a trip to VA Tech to have a tour of the vet school. We're planning to leave the bookstore parking lot at 9am and drive to Blacksburg. Once we get there, we'll have a quick lunch and meet Emily Kimmitt, Beth's sister, for a tour. With questions the tour will probably take a couple hours. We may meet in the afternoon with Anna Barnes, who spoke to the club in February. For anyone who is interested, there will be T-shirts on sale from the vet students'club. Also, bring money along for lunch. We expect to be back around 6PM, no later than 7PM. For those who are certain they are going, please e-mail Beth by no later than Wednesday afternoon by 3PM.
Wednesday, March 12th: PreVet Club meeting at 8PM in Burruss 238. Dr. David Brown, a veterinarian with the VA Department of Agriculture and Animal Health Lab in Harrisonburg, will talk about internships and veterinary work at in the diagnostics lab in Harrisonburg. Anna Barnes, a JMU alum and fourth year student in Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech, will talk about the program from the perspective almost finished and moving on to the job market. Monday and Tuesday, November 12-13: The Student Conservation Association is visiting James Madison University. SCA is the oldest and largest provider of conservation internships in the United States. This year SCA will offer hundreds of expense-paid science-based internships for students. Every year over 2,000 young people spend from 12 weeks to 12 months in one of our internships gaining hands on experience in their chosen field of study including but not limited to Geography including GIS applications,_Environmental Education and Science,_Earth Sciences,_Biology,_Natural Resources, and_Land Management. Wednesday, November 7: Dr. James Casey of Equine Veterinary Services, Laurel, Maryland, will speak at Burruss 238, JMU at 8 pm about "Joint disease, lameness and surgery in horses". Dr. Casey is an equine veterinarian and thoroughbred racehorse trainer, who is also a graduate of JMU. He will also demonstrate his digital X-ray and ultrasound imaging machines on Beth's horse at 4:30-6 pm at Mill Creek Farm , Port Republic. For those wishing to go to the demonstration, we will be meeting at 4 in front of the bookstore entrance and will be leaving by 4:20. Sunday, October 14: PreVet Club meeting to discuss the Belize trip at 5:00 pm in Burruss 238 for everyone that is serious about going. We will cover all the details concerning the trip, answer any questions, and hopefully start the application process. If you are unable to attend this meeting and are very interested in going please email me as soon as possible and we will try to arrange a time that everyone can meet.

Wednesday, October 10: PreVet Club meeting at 8:05 pm in Burruss 238. Topics to be discussed include: the final details concerning the Safari park trip on Oct. 13, announcements for the Belize trip, and presentations on five veterinary schools: University of Florida, Texas A&M University, Royal Veterinary College, Virginia-Maryland Regional College, and North Carolina State University.

Friday, March 14: Veterinary Medical Information Session and Career Fair, hosted by the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges, from 2:30-6:00 PM at the Westin City Center in Washington, DC. For more information and to register, go to www.aavmc.org.
Friday, December 7: Seminar by Dr. Terrance Fox of Buck Mountain Botanicals. Dr. Fox is a PhD engineer and chemist, former dean, and professor of engineering, who has devoted the last seven years of his career to natural veterinary medicine. He is the inventor of Neoplasene, the topical, injectable and oral medicine for cancers features in Whole Dog Journal, Just Terriers, The New York Post, and CBS News. He will be speaking about botanical medicine for pets in general and Neoplasene in particular. The seminar is from 9:00 to 5:00 pm at the Holiday Inn in Verona, Virginia, and has a $25 lunch fee. Saturday, November 3: The Mosby Foundation's 3rd annual Pet Dog Extravaganza at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds on November 3rd from 9am to 4pm. The event will feature raffles, a silent auction, dog talent shows, agility performances, as well as micro-chipping.Barnes & Noble bestselling author Ted Kerasote will be present to sign his latest book.
