JMU campus events for 2009-10:

Wednesday, November 18: PreVet Club meeting at 7:00 pm in Burruss 031. Ariane Santamaria-Bouvier, the current veterinary intern at the VA wildlife center, will be giving a powerpoint presentation about her work at the Wildlife Center and how she got there. This is a great opportunity to come listen and it's also the last meeting of the year, so please show your support through your attendance.

Wednesday, November 4: The Pre-Veterinary Society is going to the Harrisonburg diagnostic lab for a tour and maybe see a necropsy demonstration by Dr. Brown on Wednesday, November 4 (time TBA). Anyone who is interested in going and needs a ride should contact Victoria Brownson at brownsvm@jmu.edu by October 31.

Wednesday, October 14: PreVet Club meeting at 8:00 pm in Burruss 031. Jaime Newbill, a JMU alum, past club president and practicing Veterinary Technician in Charlottesville, will be discussing her time as a Vet Tech student at Blue Ridge Community College, and getting into the Vet Tech profession .

Wednesday, October 7: PreVet Club meeting. Dr. James Casey, a JMU alumn, equine vet from Laurel Maryland and specialist in joint injuries and disease, will be visiting to demonstrate his ultrasound, endoscope and X ray machines at a local horse farm, have dinner and give a talk to the club. People interested in attending the demonstration should meet at the bookstore at 3:30 pm. People interested in going to dinner should meet at CallyÕs at 5 pm. The talk is at 8 pm in Burruss 31.

Wednesday, September 23: PreVet Club meeting at 8:00 pm in Burruss 031. We will be discussing the requirements of specific vet schools.

Off campus events for 2009-10:

March 2010: Veterinary Medical Career Information Session, hosted by the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges, from 2:30-6:00 PM at the Westin City Center, 1400 M Street, Washington, DC 20005. This event, which is FREE, is a unique opportunity for high school and undergraduate students with interests in veterinary medicine. This year the event will focus on the information sessions! This model will allow students to access more information than ever before! We have a special session for High school students interested in going into undergraduate preveterinary programs. For undergraduate students we will continue the important annual session devoted to answering any questions about applying to vet school during the next year. For those interested in going to school outside of the US, we will host a session featuring AAVMC International and Affiliate members. This session will provide a wealth of information on attending veterinary medical schools outside of the United States. For more information and to register, go to www.aavmc.org.
