Mathematics

The Mathematics and Statistics Department is located in Burruss Hall. The department is the home base for the Center for Computational Modelling. The Center is for use by applied mathematics students and faculty doing research in applied mathematics. It also serves as a teaching tool for the professors through campus for scientific programming.

Some specific objectives for the coming academic year:

  • Course and program development in teacher preparation, especially with respect to the middle grades program, and including the approval of an algebra I endorsement program.
  • Development of the alternative beginning calculus sequence.
  • Development of a plan for a new introductory sequence for computer science majors.
  • Reaching adequate staffing levels to support statistics instruction and development, to support IDLS courses, and to support other new initiatives such as those mentioned above.
