This summer the College of Science and Mathematics hosted five National Science Foundation-Research Experiences for Undergraduates (NSF-REU). These programs in chemistry, materials research, mathematics and statistics, molecular biology, and a program in Ghana, complement the undergraduate research opportunities available to students during the school year. The emphasis on undergraduate research in the college and university led to JMU’s selection as one of 35 institutions in the U.S. highlighted as “Programs to Look For” in the 2007 America’s Best Colleges guide, published by U.S. News & World Report.
Katherine Kross, a rising senior biology major, has been named a Goldwater Scholar. Kross was one of 317 students nationwide to receive the prestigious Goldwater Scholarship, which provides $7,500 toward her education.
