Research Description

Dr. Gipson joined the School of Engineering and the Center for Materials Science here at JMU in 2011. While at Clemson University, Dr. Gipson conducted research about polymer nanocomposites for optical applications in addition to engineering education research centered on increasing diversity within STEM disciplines. As a graduate student, Dr. Gipson mentored undergraduates in summer research projects, as part of a Research Experience for Undergraduates Program in the School of Materials Science and Engineering and a joint program between the Center for Optical Materials Science and Engineering Technologies at Clemson University and Furman University.

Prior to pursuing his Ph.D., Dr. Gipson served in various positions with Milliken & Company. The last position he held with the company was Technical Manager for one of the business units. In this capacity, he managed the development and deployment of new-to-world products, product enhancements, and product design modifications engineered to meet specific end-use applications.
