St. Mary's Wilderness Liming Project

Planning

In the public process of deciding whether or not to use mitigative liming in the St. Mary's Wilderness, a public scoping notice was mailed to private citizens, conservation and environmental groups, government agencies and anyone the forest service could identify that might have an interest on August 27, 1997.

As a result of comments recieved from the public (Public Comments), an environmental assessment report was prepared (Environmental Assessment) in the summer of 1998. After reviewing the environmental assessment report and the public comments, the forest service decided to proceed with the liming project, issuing a decision notice on November 16, 1998 (Final Signed Document). No objections or appeals were submitted by the public.

In 2004 another environmental assessment report was prepared (2004 EA) when it was evident another liming was necessary.
